So we all know I’m weird, right? Because I am. I got caught by a random passerby meowing at the neighborhood wild cats the other day, just as they were all running toward the house and the porch and me, and it probably looked like I was calling to them in meow-speak and that they were actually responding and running toward me, so no, I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that the look on the passerby’s face was mostly filled with horror.
I like to think that I mostly rock my weird, that I own it, especially now that I’m on the downhill tilt toward thirty. I wasn’t very nice to myself in my earlier years but I think I’ve finally realized that I’m me and that’s all there is to it.
Recently, I got an email from the fine folks at Uncommon Goods, asking if I’d be interested in reviewing some of their items on this here blog and also hosting a giveaway of a $50 gift certificate to you fine people and I said yes, mostly because I am, if anything, uncommon and also because I like neat things and they have a lot of neat things.
Like shark socks, which I got for Andrew because I love him and he loves sharks and also because I can’t seem to get anything for me without also getting something for him.

For me, I got a slate cheese board, because I love cheese and because I tend to serve cheese a lot, like whenever people visit my house and a slate cheese board seems like a far more legitimate cheese serving apparatus than the giant cutting board I’ve been using.
You should all probably just come over so I can feed you cheese and also maybe meats and some wine too, because there’s nothing I like better than feeding my friends and also showing off new and nifty cheese sharing accessories.
I also got a life playbook, full of delicious inspiration and questions to help me figure out where the hell I want my life to be in 5 years.
Mostly I think I’m just going to keep it nearby and open it whenever I need a dose of GO AND LIVE YOUR LIFE THE WAY YOU WANT TO LIVE YOUR LIFE AND STOP THINKING SO MUCH ABOUT ALL OF THE THINGS, because it seems like it’s one of those books you can just open at random and then find exactly what you’re looking for, kind of like when you’re sad and then the saddest song ever comes on the radio to help you wallow, except the book is not sad, but rather inspirational and maybe a little bit pushy, but in a good way.
One of the things I’ve always loved about Uncommon Goods (I’ve purchased from them in the past, mostly for family gifts and the occasional nifty thing for me), is that they break down their offerings into helpful groupings, like this list of fabulous items under $50, which includes a wiener dog oil and vinegar set that I feel like a certain blogger friend of mine would LOVE, and also this list of items under $100, like this super cute cutting board set. As it turns out, I’m a pretty lazy shopper, but if you show me a list of nifty things within my price range, I will want all of them.

One teeny way that I’m uncommon is the way that I eat my chocolate candy. Like, I eat reeses, snickers, kit kats, etc. layer by layer. Top chocolate, each layer of insides, bottom chocolate. DEELISH.

Hm… one of the ways I am uncommon is that if I buy popcorn at the movies, I don’t eat it until the movie starts. I wait until after all the commercials and previews and all the credits until the movie actually begins to start eating. My brother and I both do this and we basically think anyone who eats MOVIE popcorn before the MOVIE is strange. (Everyone else thinks we are strange.)

Um, what? I love Uncommon Goods! One of my most favorite stores, ever. I have awesome fingerless gloves from there that I adore and wear all the time when it’s appropriate. I’m also in love with their jewelry and all things for the house.
I’m uncommon because I’ve never seen Titanic, I’m allergic to fruits and raw veggies, and if I eat something sweet, I want something salty, and vice versa. There’s probably about 100 other things that make me uncommon, but that’s good enough for now, right?

I have that book! I bought it in the beginning stages of my divorce and never filled it in, just read it whenever I needed a pick-me-up. It’s still on my nightstand today. Love it! I signed up for the mailing list and liked them on facebook.
I’m uncommon because I am lactose intolerant and soy intolerant so that makes eating vegetarian dishes at restaurants really difficult! And I can bend my second toes without bending any others as the same time.
