Apparently spring is the time for ALL THE RUNNING, because that’s what I feel like I’ve been up to for the past two months or so. It’s been race after race after race, or at least it feels like it. Not that I’m complaining – I love it all, even if it does leave me feeling like I’m low on time.
On Saturday, I ran my first color run, a Color Me Rad. It was a 5k, through the parking lots and roads around an office complex; mostly flat, mostly easy. I ran with a friend, which is something I’ve been doing a lot of lately, and it was a fun way to spend a Saturday morning.
The way it works is you run for a bit and then you hit a color station and at the color stations they pelt you with different colors and then you get to the end and you’re covered with color. It was a mostly good time, except for the pink station, at which they threw a solid hunk of color at my FACE, which hurt like a bitch for a minute and resulted in a fistful of color smashing into my mouth. My gums were stained neon pink by the end and I had mild case of The Hostility and felt vaguely like I wanted to run back to the pink station and pelt the brat who threw the color at my face with color chunks until they yielded, but ultimately I decided I had better shit to do than beat up a teenager.
Despite the face-pelt, it was mostly fun, if a little unorganized. It was very, very different from the races I’ve completed recently and I’m pretty sure the whole thing was run by colony of feral teenagers a few bros, but it was worth it for the photos alone, I think.
The thing about having a handful of mud runs under my belt is that I know to get undressed IN the tub after any sort of dirty race, mostly because you never know what sort of random bits of nature – or color, in this case – might fall from your clothing as you undress.
So there I was, in the shower, undressing, when a pile of pink fell from my bra and landed on my foot.
It had nested between my boobs, this pile of pink cornstarch, likely from the same clump that smashed into my face and stained by gums, and there it created, on my chest, a ridiculous sort of stain, perhaps in homage to Rorschach.
And really, that’s all I have to say about that, because what else can you say about the Rorschach-reminiscent stain on your boobs from a color run?

After we got cleaned up, my friend and I headed to Hardywood, a local brewery that’s about a five minute drive from my house, for Spring Bada-Bing, which is an annual craft fair of sorts full of really, really cool stuff. And also beers and food cart food because if there’s anything I always feel like I’ve earned after a run, long or short, it’s a damn good beer, and Hardywood is pretty incredible on the damn good beer bits.
Among a few other things, I bought this print, which is pretty much one of my favorite things and also maybe my new mantra:
By the time I got home it was still mid-afternoon and I was deliciously day drunk and so I took a nap, mostly because I could.
And that was a good Saturday, I think, because any time you manage to stain your boobs a shade of neon, get a little day drunk & collect some quirky art, it’s a damn good day.

Color runs sound like so much fun (though, when you described getting pelted in the mouth, I lost a little love for it). I’m actually signed up to do a glow-in-the-dark 5K and dance party in early June. Hopefully it’ll be just as fun and maybe (??) a little less messy? (Though, I really appreciate your advice about getting undressed in the tub – will definitely do that!)
