The first person to ever call me Terra Bear was my big sister. Not my real big sister though. I don’t actually have a big sister. No. It was Chrissy, the big sister I’d acquired through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. She was like a safe haven in a raging storm of shit. At the end of the day when I didn’t have anyone else, she was there. Always.
Once I left Ohio, where Chrissy was, I kept the name Terra Bear close to my chest as a reminder of all that she’d done for me. It was a special little name that popped back up in my memory whenever I started to miss her and the adventures we used to have.
Later, a boy called me Terra Bear. He thought he was pretty damn clever too and that I’d never had such an adorable name but no, I assured him, he wasn’t half as original or clever as he thought he was. Neither was the second boy to call me TerraBear. Or the third.
Also, there’s this:
That was from our Alaskan Cruise. We’d seen bears the day before and Andrew said he wanted to take a picture of me making a bear face. Little did I know, he was actually recording it.
P.S.: Remember how I mentioned in my to-do post for the month that I was going to accomplish some big blog changes, well, here we are! Welcome to terra-bear.com!! I’ve been wanting my own domain since forever and I finally stopped talking about doing it and actually did it. Yay! What do you think?
